Hi I'm new to this tribe, I have a cool lil one named Chuck, he's 2 1/2 months old. This morning I woke up to Chuck babling and staring at his dads tattoos! he would put his little hand on his dad, and his dad would grunt! it the cutist thing in the world. I am soo suprised that chuck even notices the tattoos, dose anyone else's lil' one do the same thing?

Re: Tattoos and babys...
Mon, February 5, 2007 - 1:54 PMMy daughter seemed to notice the pictures on her dad's arms and mine when she was very little. We've always had many close friends who had tattoos, the rule's always been. . .you pay for your own, after you're old enough. Ugh, she'll be old enough this fall.. -

Re: Tattoos and babys...
Tue, February 6, 2007 - 7:35 AMMy 4 year old is really into my tattoos, he actually has a toy tattoo machine. But like one of the other mamas said, I'm worried about him getting one from some scratcher when he's older. So I try to impress upon him that play tattoos are fun, but real tattoos are forever and demand a lot of forethought. -

Tue, February 6, 2007 - 8:54 AMSarah, you might want to make your child and their friends aware of the law, and that if they tattoo each other as minors, it's a crime. -

Re: Tattoos and babys...
Tue, February 6, 2007 - 9:45 AMWell Charlies a bit young for that yet, but do you know if thats a state law? One of my little sisters ran out and got like three of them done with this home-made machine, they look horrible. I think I'll end up showing him my sisters ugly ones. "wait untill your old enugh, or they'l trun out like Auntie's!" -

Re: Tattoos and babys...
Tue, February 6, 2007 - 12:34 PMJust about every state government web site has their laws in it. Shouldn't take more than a few clicks to find out what laws apply to you.
One of the things that made me very careful about what sort of tattoos I get was seeing old men with faded military-era tats, some clearly done with a lot of alcohol influence. Stress the permanence of a tattoo to your son, show him older people's faded work, if at all possible. Remind him of what happens when you make a foolish choice, you live with it forever.

Re: Tattoos and babys...
Tue, February 20, 2007 - 10:25 PMIve had amazing things happen when kids see my tattoos, I have the sun on my left hand and the moon on right hand. My son has always known me with them so there has never seemd to be one moment of seeing them but when he was little he would alway want to hold the sun hand and there would sometimes be skwabbles with his cousin over who got to hold the sun hand when crossing the street. -

Re: Tattoos and babys...
Mon, March 17, 2008 - 10:53 PMwhen our boy was 3 or so he was looking at himself one morning before getting dressed and he suddenly became VERY concerned...he turned to us and said in a panic, "WHERE ARE MY TATTOOS?!!?"
--as if they had gone somewhere or been erased or something.......as if he ever had them.........LOL.
it seemed so funny but really logical since the majority of people in his circle have tattoos and other body art / modifications. he will be 16 this summer and this memory will be with me forever. now with a new little one i am sure we will at some point be having some similar conversations..............double LOL. -

Re: Tattoos and babys...
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 2:57 PMSo true! I have a full sleeve on my right arm that to this day my 3 year old daughter loves to look at!!! I also have her footprints (at 9 days old) on my left arm and she likes to hold her foot up against it now! Quite the difference!! I too am already expressing the importance of permanence when she is old enough. So far, she doesn't even like temporary ones! :)

Re: Tattoos and babys...
Wed, February 21, 2007 - 3:41 AMmy husband & i both have tats & so does just about everyone we know including my brother inlaws. so when she was really little she would automatically look for peoples tattoos & if she didn't see one she would get this confused look on her face & ask where their tats were. and she loves fake tattoos so much. most kids do, but i think for her it's a way of identifying with our family too. -

Re: Tattoos and babys...
Mon, March 19, 2007 - 12:02 PMI have a very tribal-esque one above my left breast. It's all black line with just a touch of red. All the boys have tried to grab ahold of it when they were nursing.
When my husband and I got married, all of my bride's maids had tats. None of the groom's men did. I still find that hilarious!

Re: Tattoos and babys...
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 10:31 PMMy eldest daughter, when she was THREE, announced to me that she "was down with tattoos, but not piercings."
It's nice to know they are aware. Both of them, now 7 and 5, understand the meaning behind every piece of art on me. My ex, their dad, had a bunch of crap on him...from drunken nights overseas in the Navy...which he has now begun working on with beautiful cover-ups. The girls come back to my house and say "daddy's figuring himself out." HAHAHA! Yes, I suppose he finally is. *grin*
How freakin' "on" are the Little's these days? I'm constantly astonished and grinning from their little perspectives.
Now, you know, they could totally turn it around and be the generation that "does it different than their parents" and not get any ink (cause, you know, they won't think it's cool to be like their parents). Who knows! It's fun watching it unfold... -

Wed, March 19, 2008 - 11:09 AMYou have all brilliantly reinforced the old saying....the only people that care whether you have tattoos....are the ones that don't have any. -

Re: Tattoos and babys...
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 11:55 PMI got my first tattoo when my daughter was 3 and one day she exclaimed "Mama! Someone DREW on your back!!" Hehehe... Now she's 9 and she loves tattoos. She still likes to trace over the lines (I have a few now) with her fingers. My son too. He's 6. They love to make fake tattoos on each other. We talk a lot about how permanent they are and how old they have to be to get one of their own. I tell my daughter a lot about why I waited so long to get my first tattoo and all the ideas I had before that which I never had done and why. I'm also learning how to tattoo, so this is a constant ongoing discussion with her.

Re: Tattoos and babys...
Sat, May 17, 2008 - 8:32 AMI am still waiting to get my first tat. I have always wanted them and all my friends have them. I guess I had went the piercing route a tad bit instead. My goal is to be sleeved up and eventually that will happen. It seems like I have have jobs off and on that won't allow tats so I didn't pursue my dream to get them. Now that I stay at home with all 3 of my children, and only go to school, I can get them. It's just what do I want to get first? But I know my children loves tats and can't wait to get some of their own. They are 11, 8 and 8 months <---well, my youngest really studies my friends tats when she sees them!
